How to avoid sweater pilling?
Why do sweaters get pilling easily?
Pilling of sweaters is caused by friction and abrasion of wool fabric fibers during wearing and washing, which will damage the fibers on the surface of the wool fabric and form small ball-shaped burrs. The main causes of pilling include:
1.Friction: Contact of wool fabric with other rough surfaces (such as backpack straps, leather seats) or other fiber fabrics can cause friction, resulting in damage to the fibers on the surface of the wool fabric.
2.Washing: Too frequent or too high mixing intensity machine washing, friction and high temperature drying may cause pilling of wool fabric.
3.Wear: Woolen fabrics are susceptible to wear, especially in contact with rough objects or in areas of high friction
In order to avoid sweater pilling, we can take the following measures:
1.Hand Wash: Hand wash your sweater with warm water and mild detergent, avoid using the washing machine. Be as gentle as possible when washing and don’t stir too much.
2.Use a laundry bag: Place your sweater in a laundry bag to reduce friction with other items of clothing.
3.Avoid high-temperature drying: Try to avoid using high-temperature drying. You can choose to air dry or low-temperature drying.
4.Avoid contact with rough surfaces: When wearing a sweater, be careful to avoid contact with objects with rough surfaces, such as backpack straps, leather items, etc.
5.Use a pilling trimmer: If your sweater has pilled, you can use a pilling trimmer to carefully trim the balls to make it look neater.
6.Choose high-quality woolen fabrics: High-quality wool, cashmere or blended fabrics are generally less prone to pilling, so choose quality raw materials when purchasing a sweater.
Please note that although steps can be taken to reduce pilling, sweaters may still have some pilling after long-term use. This is part of the nature of wool, but with careful care and prevention, you can extend the life of your sweater and maintain its appearance.
